Hi! We had Merly as our guide. Honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better guide. She was very informative, spoke clearly, and had excellent storytelling skills. Plus, she was incredibly friendly and approachable. 10/10. 100% recommended!!! Cheers.

Aguas Calientes Tours and Activities | Explore Machu Picchu Gateway

Nestled in the lush valleys of the Andes, Aguas Calientes is the gateway to the world-famous Machu Picchu. This charming town is embraced by towering green mountains and the soothing sounds of the Urubamba River, making it a perfect place to relax and prepare for unforgettable adventures. Its welcoming atmosphere, natural hot springs, and vibrant local culture invite travelers to experience the true spirit of Peru.

A Brief Look at Its Past

Originally a small settlement built around the natural thermal baths, Aguas Calientes grew rapidly after the discovery of Machu Picchu. As the popularity of the ancient citadel soared, so did the town, becoming the main base for those seeking to explore the historic Inca site. Today, it blends modern comforts with a deep connection to its roots and breathtaking surroundings.

When to Go

The best time to visit is during the dry season, from May to September, when days are sunny, and rain is rare. However, visiting during the off-season (October to April) allows you to experience more tranquility and lush landscapes, though occasional showers are likely.

How Long Should I Stay?

Usually, people stay one or two nights to get used to the weather, enjoy the hot springs, or organize a day trip to Machu Picchu comfortably.
